Clinical psychologist sessions: how the process works

  1. 1

    First session

Your reasons for seeking support, your history and your expectations are discussed. It is also a chance for you to see whether the therapist feels right for you.

  2. 2

    Assessment and plan

Your therapist agrees with you on a suitable therapeutic approach and how often you will meet.

  3. 3

    The therapy process

You meet regularly. Goals are reviewed along the way and adjusted when needed.

  4. 4

    Ending and follow-up

Once your goals are met, sessions are gradually spaced out; follow-up meetings can be arranged if you wish.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book an appointment with a psychologist in Beylikdüzü?

Arrow Down

Fill in the form on our contact page or call us, and we will get back to you to agree on a suitable clinical psychologist and time. Mention briefly what you would like support with and whether you prefer in-person or online sessions. If you are in immediate danger or thinking of harming yourself, call 112 now rather than waiting for an appointment.

How do I get to your centre in Beylikdüzü?

Arrow Down

Our centre is in Barış Mahallesi, on Samsun Caddesi, inside the Makyol Yaşam residential complex in Beylikdüzü. It is within walking distance of the metrobus stops and close to the E-5, which makes it easy to reach by public transport or by car from nearby districts such as Esenyurt, Avcılar and Büyükçekmece.

Can I have online sessions if I live outside Beylikdüzü?

Arrow Down

Yes. Our psychotherapy unit offers online video sessions with the same clinical psychologists who see clients at the centre, so you can get support from Esenyurt, Büyükçekmece, Avcılar or anywhere else without travelling to Beylikdüzü. In some situations your psychologist may suggest meeting face to face, and you can discuss which format suits you best at the first contact.

Do you have English-speaking psychologists?

Arrow Down

Sessions in English can be arranged when a suitable specialist is available. Tell us your language preference when you contact us and we will match you with a clinical psychologist who works in English, either in person or online. If nobody is available at the time you need, we will let you know straight away so you can plan accordingly.

How long is a session with a psychologist?

Arrow Down

A standard psychotherapy session lasts 50 minutes. The first session may run a little longer because it includes getting to know you and an initial assessment of what you would like to work on. How often you meet after that is agreed with your psychologist and can be reviewed as the work progresses.

When should I see a psychologist?

Arrow Down

If something has been weighing on you for a few weeks and is affecting your sleep, work, relationships or daily life, it is worth talking to a psychologist. You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to start; many people come to understand a pattern or get through a transition. If you are thinking of harming yourself, call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department now.

What happens in the first psychotherapy session?

Arrow Down

The first session is a conversation, not a test. Your clinical psychologist at Sone asks what brought you, what you hope will change and a little about your history, and explains how sessions work, including confidentiality. It is also your chance to see whether the therapist feels right for you before deciding to continue.

How many psychotherapy sessions will I need?

Arrow Down

It depends on what you are working on and how you are doing along the way. Focused work on a specific difficulty, such as exam anxiety or a sleep problem, is often completed in roughly 8 to 16 weekly sessions; longer-standing patterns or relationship work can take more. Your therapist gives you an estimate after the first few meetings and reviews it with you as you go.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

Arrow Down

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who diagnoses mental health conditions and can prescribe medication. A clinical psychologist holds a postgraduate degree in clinical psychology and provides psychotherapy and psychological assessment, but does not prescribe. The two often work together: if medication might help, your psychologist will suggest a psychiatric consultation, and therapy can continue alongside it.

Is what I tell my psychologist confidential?

Arrow Down

Yes. Everything you share in sessions is confidential under professional ethics and Turkish law, and nothing is passed to employers, family members or anyone else without your written consent. The few exceptions, such as a serious risk to your life or someone else's, or a legal obligation, are explained clearly in the first session, so you know where the limits are before you begin.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person sessions?

Arrow Down

For most concerns, yes. Research shows that online psychotherapy delivered by video produces outcomes comparable to face-to-face sessions for difficulties such as anxiety, low mood and stress. What matters more is having a quiet, private space and a stable connection. Your therapist may suggest meeting in person at the Beylikdüzü centre in some situations, for example when working with children or when risk needs closer monitoring.

Our other units

Sone is a wellbeing unit: body, mind and nutrition are not treated in isolation. When needed, our units work together within the same process.
